It has been many years since I last tasted Buckwheat pancakes. What I recall is a strong flavor of buckwheat. I couldn't detect any unusual flavor is this mix! It tasted "neutral"? To be fair, the buckwheat flavor I remember may be limited to the brand I used years ago. Perhaps the Orgran Stonemilled Buckwheat Pancake Mix is more normal?
